Seasonal report from Sun Chlorella USA NY Branch

Reported by Mr. Masahiko Nishino, Branch Manager of Sun Chlorella USA, NY Branch

Located three hours away from Manhattan, NY, along route 87, is Saratoga Spa National Park. On the east side of the highway there is a lake, and on the other side, there is a large horse race track. Horse racing season starts from early summer to early autumn, and many people come to see the races from New York, Massachusetts and other New England states. This is the oldest race track in the US.

When I visited there last September, a city-wide festival was being held. In the evening, music and songs from Broadway shows could be heard coming from the park. In the park near the race course are several hotels and spas. Originally, there was a cold water-well in Saratoga. The usage of the water well led people to this location where it developed into a summer resort.

In addition to the racetrack, Saratoga is also the birthplace of the potato chip. In 1853, there was a lodge named Moon's Lodge near Saratoga Lake. One day, the chef of the lodge, George Crum had to make french fries repeatedly because a guest found them too thick for his liking and refused the order. Exasperated, George decided to cut the potato very thin making the french fries too crisp to eat with a fork. However, George's attempt ended in failure, because the guest liked the thin crisp potato very much. This dish was named "Saratoga Chips" and spread throughout New England. During my visit I found potato chips as an accompanying dish in small restaurants replacing the french fries.
