Amanohashidate is located in northern part of Kyoto facing to Sea of Japan and is well known as one of the three most scenic spots in Japan. In order to maintain its white sandy beach and pine trees with green colored leaves, the Kyoto Civil Engineering Division has invited voluntary people to the association named "Amanohashidate Mamoritai" or group to maintain its contemporary condition. In Japanese words the group can be translated as the volunteers to maintain or to protect the spot. It is understood that volunteer activities are most effective in collaboration with local people. The project was broadcasted by radio. Some members at SCC listened and 6 of them have formed a group so-called "Doronko-tai" or Mud Ranger. They have carried out their mission for the first time on one snowy day. They cleaned up the beach and collected pine leaves and filled up 2-ton truck. This activity was introduced to the public at website of Kyoto Prefecture Office and on Kyoto New Paper. |
