Springtime in Japan is a beautiful season as it marks the flowering of the cherry blossom. But, many people complain about the amount of pollen which is being released from cedar trees at the same time. They suffer symptom of hay fever, which includes eye, nose and skin, and asthma. This makes many people feel unpleasant. It is caused by the growth of cedar trees which were planted after Second World War in Japan, and the amount of pollen released from the trees has increased dramatically in recent years. More than 40% of middle-aged people have symptoms, and mass media bring pollen information at weather forecast every day. The market of hay fever has been constantly growing. It is estimated to be worth 100 billion yen. In Japan, it is said that the amount of pollen from cedar trees will reach a peak in 2050.So we hope that the fundamental solution can be found as soon as possible before serious health damage at latest.
