Exercise and Health (1)
To maintain our health, we need nutrition, rest and exercise. It’s widely known that regular exercise is a large part of keeping healthy. However, a report in 2007 found only 30.9% of men and 25.8% of women regularly exercise in Japan. Most people know the importance of exercise, but surprisingly few people exercise regularly.
Why do we need to exercise?
In the past, most people had an active lifestyle, which naturally burned calories. However, with the invention of various technologies, such as computers, television, and video games, people are not as active as they once were. Inactivity coupled with an increase in caloric intake has created an increase in obesity and other conditions such as metabolic syndrome. To help combat this increasing problem, the Japanese government has conducted educational campaigns to help stop these trends.
One of the ways to combat weight gain is to change our diet by decreasing the empty calories we consume and increasing the nutritious calories we consume found in fruits, vegetables, and healthy protein. An important point to remember is that we need to control our diets and increase our exercise regime to include strength training.
