Cancer and our Life (1)
Since 1981, cancer has been the most common cause of death and has killed three hundred thousand people every year since 2001 in Japan. The number of deaths is expected to keep increasing due to our aging society.
Early Detection of Cancer
As a result of medical progress, 50% of cancer patients recover fully. Routine checkups have become widely used to assist in the early detection of cancer. According to the National Livelihood Survey in 2007, the rate that men receive detection of stomach cancer, lung cancer and colon cancer is approximately 30% and the rate that women receive detection of stomach cancer, lung cancer, colon cancer, breast cancer and uterine cancer is approximately 20%. The overall rate of cancer detection is still low in Japan.
